Notes: There's a rather large, rambling park I like to visit and photograph in south Kansas City. I usually visit in the fall and winter, mostly because it's less crowded in colder weather, but also because the leaves have fallen off the trees by then, affording views you can't quite catch when the limbs are leafy and green.
The landscape above reminded me of a movie I recently watched, Winter's Bone. Filmed just a few hours south of Kansas City, Winter's Bone is the story of a teenage girl, struggling to provide for her mother and younger siblings while searching for her missing father in the remote and meth-infested reaches of the mountainous Ozarks. While it's a sobering look at rural life in the Ozarks, it's also a story of responsibility and determination, of family and the ties that bind.
While I can't say it's a film you'll watch and feel happy about afterwards, I can recommend that you see it, sooner rather than later. It is extremely well written, well produced and well directed---a film in which every scene (and every photograph) tells a story.
